Talk on the Visual Arts, Literature and Poetry

Pedro Calapez and André Gomes, the artists and curators of the exhibition, Be it day or night, it matters not, established a conversation addressing other themes beyond the visual arts, such as literature and poetry, with the presence of Rosa Martelo, from the Faculty of Arts and Bernardo Pinto de Almeida, from the Faculty of Fine Arts, both of Porto University.

The conversation was part of the exhibition’s complementary programme, in which Pedro Calapez’s paintings and André Gomes’ images dialogued with Artur Loureiro, a 19th century painter featuring in the Soares dos Reis National Museum collection.

Chasuble with Corals

The piece of the month for April chosen by MNSR’s social media followers is a silver llama chasuble embroidered with gold, silk threads and coral beads. Coming from Mitra do Porto and integrated into the Museum’s collection in 1938, the chasuble was acquired by D. Frei José Maria da Fonseca e Évora, bishop of Porto between 1740 and 1752.

Painting Girl Lying on a Tree Trunk

The painting signed by Henrique Pousão, piece of the month of May, is an unfinished work. The painter, a state pensioner in Italy, was working on the canvas to send it as proof of completion of the third year of the course he was attending in Capri, when, in the summer of 1883, he returned to Portugal for health reasons, in the hope of a healing that didn’t happen.
